#CodingLabStudents: Caleb Asher Kusumo, 12-Year-Old NOI 2025 Bronze Medallist!
At just 12 years old, Caleb has done something truly remarkable — earning a Bronze Award at the National Olympiad in Informatics (NOI) 2025, one of Singapore’s most challenging coding competitions! Tackling advanced algorithmic problems written for secondary and JC students, Caleb stood shoulder to shoulder with some of the nation’s brightest and came away with a medal to show for it.
Caleb’s journey has been all about trying a lot of things. As a homeschooled student, he’s had the freedom to explore his interests. He has over 1,500 books that his mum lovingly collected, and aside from robotics, he also loves business and economics, swimming, and trying new food. Through it all, Caleb enjoys taking on new challenges and sees something new to learn every day. His story reminds us that childhood is meant for exploring, and that learning, at its best, is filled with laughter, joy, and wide-eyed excitement. #CodingLabStudents: Lam Dieu Phong, ICS 2024/25 Silver Award Winner!
At just 10 years old, Lam Dieu Phong from Cedar Primary School is already exploring three different coding languages and building meaningful projects.
His love for reading and programming has taken him far—he earned the Silver and Judges’ Choice (Social Impact) Awards at the International Coding Showcase (ICS) 2024/25 for a project that showed both creativity and purpose.

#CodingLabStudents: Aqil Poh, ICS 2024/25 Gold and Wildlife Conservation Award Winner!
From biking across Mars in his imagination to building apps that raise awareness for animal conservation, Aqil, age 12, brings bold creativity and deep purpose to everything he does.
His passion for history, space, and making a difference truly stood out at the International Coding Showcase (ICS) 2024/25, where he won Gold, received the Judges’ Choice for Most Creative & Social Impact, and was specially selected by Singapore Zoo staff for the Wildlife Conservation Award—a triple achievement that reflects his inspiring journey!
He has also previously taken part in other competitions, such as the MIT AI & Education Summit ‘Hack the Climate’ Hackathon (Beginner Open Category), where he and his teammates won the 2nd Prize!

From the colorful world of LEGO to the digital space of Scratch and Python, 11-year-old Joseph from Fairfield Methodist Primary School has been turning imagination into innovation since he was 7.
A seasoned ICS participant, Joseph’s years of effort and growth were recognized at the International Coding Showcase 2024/25, where he earned the coveted Platinum Award.
With a love for structured thinking and a heart set on improving technology for everyone, Joseph proves that small steps—like snapping LEGO bricks or writing lines of code—can lead to big achievements.

Meet Dionysia Kyvetou, or Denise, a 10-year-old competitive swimmer from Stamford American International School and avid reader who brings just as much passion to the keyboard as she does to the pool.
Her love for animals and creative ideas led her to win the Gold Award at the International Coding Showcase (ICS) 2024/25 with a meaningful Python project!

#CodingLabStudents: Nakamura Shinji, 3-Time International Coding Showcase Award Winner!
Meet Nakamura Shinji, our talented young coder with a knack for creativity and solving real-world problems! Shinji has consecutively won top prizes in the annual International Coding Showcase for the past 3 years - Distinction Award in 2022, Platinum and Judge’s Choice (Most Innovative) Awards in 2023, and Gold and Judge’s Choice Award (Most Innovative) Awards in 2024/25!
Beyond his strong coding skills, Shinji has a unique talent for solving problems in unexpected ways. He has twice earned the “Most Innovative” award with projects addressing global challenges such as the UN Sustainable Development Goals and Singapore Zoo’s wildlife conservation efforts. Sanya Gudi, 12, showcases her App Inventor project, 'Virtual Singapore Zoo Tour' , for Coding Lab’s International Coding Showcase 24/25!
"My game is a virtual zoo tour with 3 zones: Reptile Kingdom, Australasia and Elephants of Asia. Each zone has a page of information and a game. There is also a screen for my favourite animals. Reptile Kingdom has a quiz game that includes time and score variables. Australasia is a clicker game where you make the kangaroo jump as many times as you can before the timer runs out. The last game is a reverse ivory game. You drag an elephant with a net across the screen trying to catch the hunter.” - Sanya Gudi

Dionysia Kyvetou, 10, showcases her Python project, 'The sounds of endangered animals in Singapore Zoo' , for Coding Lab’s International Coding Showcase 24/25!
"This educational script raises awareness about endangered animals at the Singapore Zoo. Using Python, users can select an animal from a list, and the script will display its description while playing its unique sound. There are nine animals to choose from. The script utilizes the yt_dlp library to download animal sounds from YouTube videos and pygame to play them. Bryon Soh, 10, showcases his Scratch project, 'Animal Frenzy’, for Coding Lab’s International Coding Showcase 24/25!
"Animal Frenzy is a game about an intruder who broke into the Singapore Zoo one night and deliberately set the lions, pythons and monkeys free from their enclosures. The player who is the zookeeper uses a net to go around chasing the escaped animals and put them back into their respective enclosures safely by luring them with their favourite foods. This game emphasises the consequences of disrupting animal habitats even in controlled environments like the zoo." - Bryon Soh

"Climate change has caused the Earth’s temperature to rise and making it warmer than it has ever been. This has contributed to an increase in large wildfires in forests. Forest fires can destroy the habitats of many wildlife species and threatened them to extinction. My project is a game that requires the player to act as a wildlife ranger, helping to put out the wildfires and bringing the animals to safety. Tan Le Jia Claire, 10, showcases her Scratch project, 'My Endangered Pet' , for Coding Lab’s International Coding Showcase 24/25!
"My project is a game which simulates how zookeepers take care of endangered animals. The aim of this game is to educate the community about endangered animals and have fun while learning. The game allows you to select one of four animals to care for. The goal is to keep the animal happy and healthy as possible by feeding the animal food and brushing it. You can acquire the food and brush with coins you get from answering quiz questions. Have fun playing!” - Tan Le Jia Claire

Poh Aqil Abidin, 11, showcases his App Inventor project, 'App Meng’, for Coding Lab’s International Coding Showcase 24/25!
"App Meng is a fun educational game app inspired by the enrichment activities that Singapore zoo have done for the development of the orangutans. I was amazed by the amount of effort that Singapore zoo have put to it. The information I have learnt has definitely got me hooked into finding out more about the orangutans and what I can do to help them. Just like how Ah Meng helped paved the way for the Orangutan conservation efforts, I do hope my app will be able to do the same for the orangutans." - Poh Aqil Abidin

"Many animals are going extinct because of illegal poaching. As a player, you are tasked with an important mission to protect the animals by catching the poachers. When playing my game, you will be introduced to the animals which are under the care of Singapore Zoo and learn interesting facts about them. This game covers the topics - Animals Under Care, Education and Singapore Zoo. Through “Catch the Poachers”, I hope you will learn more about many different animals and try to protect them." - Nakamura Shinji

From flipping through a Scratch book at age eight to winning the top prize at the Hwa Chong Infocomm Challenge (HCIC) 2024 - only awarded to the top 1.5% of participants, Isaac’s coding journey has been nothing short of remarkable!
What started as simple experimentation quickly turned into an insatiable passion for programming. Whether he's building games or tinkering with code to understand how things work, Isaac has developed a deep appreciation for coding that extends beyond competition wins.
